Dave's first project, beyond constructing model car kits, was this 1929 Model A Roadster. At the age of 12, with the help of his father and older brothers, he started building this Model A. Dave's dad was a whiz at the mechanics, but the sheet metal work was something Dave had to teach himself. In a garage with a dirt floor on the family ranch, Dave learned to do bodywork with limited tools. The job was completed with one dolly, one body hammer, an arc welder and a hand grinder.
With some direction from his Dad and brothers, Dave did all of the work himself. He restored the car to original condition including paint color, interior and engine. If you see this car today you may not think it looks as "polished" as some Model A's, but it's exactly as Dave finished it at the age of 14. This car is currently housed in South Dakota where it is occasionally driven in the summer months.
